SWANotchFM'24, the SWAN Notch Filter Design Challenge 2024

31 July, 2024

The Department of Space, Planetary & Astronomical Sciences & Engineering (SPASE), IIT Kanpur SWANotchFM'24, the SWAN Notch Filter Design Challenge 2024 invited motivated teams from educational and research institutes in India to participate in the opportunity to innovate and become one of the key contributors of the Indian-Sky Watch Array Network (SWAN). The goal was to design and simulate a differential input Notch filter for the FM band to significantly attenuate interfering signals from the FM broadcasting stations.

Eligibility Criteria and Details of the Challenge:

Students who were enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate studies and already graduated students doing projects and internships in Indian Institutes could participate and register as a 2 to 5-member team. The registered teams could include a mentor member (faculty) if desired. The teams were given three months to design the filter and submit the simulation and test results.

The shortlisted designs then proceed to the next prototyping phase, during which the selected teams will have two months to fabricate and test the prototype of their filter design. The final filter prototype will be evaluated for performance using actual observations with our SWAN (Sky Watch Array Network) system.
