The remarkable work of Mr. Abhishek Bhardwaj (BT/EE), Ms. Saumya Kumari (BT/CHE), and their mentor, Prof. Amar Behera from the Department of Design, IIT Kanpur, has earned them the prestigious Hyundai Hope Scholarship. This honor was presented by Shri Kiren Rijiju at the Kamani Auditorium in New Delhi, highlighting their outstanding contribution to improving the lives of individuals with visual impairments. Their innovative project, the "Advanced AI-Driven Headset for Visually Impaired People," leverages cutting-edge technology to provide real-time assistance and enhance the daily lives of those affected by visual disabilities.
This breakthrough wearable headset integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), and Multi-Sensor Technology, offering features designed to help individuals with conditions like Stargardt Disease and Retinitis Pigmentosa. Key functionalities include gaze tracking for automatic zoom, object recognition powered by reinforcement learning, AR-driven navigation, and multi-sensory feedback—all of which aim to provide greater independence and accessibility.
Their vision of transforming how visually impaired individuals navigate their world is not only technologically advanced but also deeply impactful, helping users regain autonomy in education, work, and daily activities.
