17 Mar, 2025 | Student Glory

With a motto of handing out pro-bono data-driven consultancy to nonprofits and social organisations using data science and machine learning, the IITK Consulting Group (ICG) is a vibrant and driven student community of consulting and data science enthusiasts. The vision behind ICG is to use the tools of emerging technologies to leverage better insights from data and strategise around business situations. We have a diverse team of skilled students from all disciplines of engineering programs who are committed to using their knowledge and skills to create a strong social impact.

Highlight projects :

Applications of Geospatial Data (GDPDC, Government of India): Our team prepared a comprehensive report containing a detailed examination of a total of 20 use cases of geospatial data across these seven sectors. Additionally, we offered recommendations for the top 5 use cases using an impact matrix, where each use case was evaluated based on its potential impact and ease of implementation. Our report was accepted and is widely under circulation among the government from Survey of India (SOI), GDPDC committee, and other corporate stakeholders.

IITK Net Zero Water (Solar Energy Corporation of India): We worked on developing a comprehensive strategy to transform IIT Kanpur into a net zero (achieving a balance between production and usage) campus with respect to water. We secured a grant from Solar Energy Corporation of India to implement the strategy.

Predicting the Evolution of Deforestation in a Spatial Zone (Moja Global): With funding from Google Al, we partnered with Moja Global and Makerere University to predict deforestation's evolution in a spatial zone. To achieve this, we used ML techinques such as time series forecasting and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) on satellite images and ground reports collected by Makerere University. By leveraging our expertise in machine learning and data analysis, we made a positive impact in addressing deforestation and promoting sustainable land use.

Drafting a proposal for the establishment of 7 COES for MedTech startups (DST, Govt of India): Our team analysed global clinical trial procedures for medtech startups and recommended improvements to ISO standards, CDSCO, and ICMR mandates. It was achieved through mapping licensing and certification procedures for medical devices, focusing on reducing application times and enhancing accessibility. The final impact was to reduce India's reliance on importing 80% of medical devices, boosting self-sufficiency in medical technology & supporting the growth of MedTech startups mushrooming across the country.

As a group, we most revel in challenges that keep our collective heads down, attacking the problem statement with a goal of creating a long-lasting social impact.
