14 Feb, 2025 | Research & Innovation

The collaboration between the Center for Lasers and Photonics (CELP), IIT Kanpur, and the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Bengaluru, has been a remarkable success, drawing significant attention at IMTEX 2025. This partnership exemplifies the power of innovation and collaboration in driving advancements in laser-based manufacturing technologies. The combined expertise of both institutions has resulted in significant strides in the field, making a strong impact on India’s technology landscape.

At the heart of this achievement is the successful demonstration of the FemtoQube, an integrable fiber-based femtosecond laser oscillator system, showcased at IMTEX 2025 in Bangalore. With a focus on compactness, cost-effectiveness, and stability, the FemtoQube represents a breakthrough in ultrafast laser technology. Its versatile applications span material processing, medical imaging, and spectroscopy, opening up new possibilities for industries reliant on precision laser technologies.

Looking ahead, the collaboration sets the stage for even greater ambitions. The next major target is the development of a Femtosecond Laser System for the Micromachining Center, entirely designed and developed in India. This upcoming project promises to further elevate India’s position in the global precision manufacturing landscape, laying the groundwork for future innovations in micromachining and other high-tech applications.
