IIT Kanpur signed an MoU with the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation to develop a software for implementing seasonal adjustments for important economic indices like consumer price index.

The research project, 'X-13-ARIMA-SEATS for Seasonal Adjustment: Understanding the model and providing an R software package catered to the needs of MoSPI', will take up the following-

1. Create a technical document that explicitly lays down the theory and methodology of the X- 13-ARIMA-SEATS model.
2. Test the appropriateness of the model as it pertains to Indian data, with consultation with the experts at MoSPI.
3. Make an R software package independently available to MoSPI for the specific use of the X-13- ARIMA-SEATS model for application to Indian data, according to the needs of MoSPI.

The MoU was signed by Shri Shivnath Singh Jadawat, Director, MoSPI; and Prof. Tarun Gupta, Dean of R&D, IIT Kanpur in the presence of Prof. Raja Angamuthu, Associate Dean Research & Development, and Prof. Dootika Vats, Dept. of Mathematics IIT Kanpur, the project PI.
