Science Enrichment Program 2025 for Northern India’s Talented Students

12 May, 2025

The Science Enrichment Program 2025 has officially commenced at the IIT Kanpur, offering a unique and transformative opportunity for exceptionally talented Class XI students from various schools across India. This prestigious program aims to foster scientific curiosity and inspire highly able students to pursue careers of innovation and research in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

This year, 25 students from different schools, including many from Navodaya Vidyalayas in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, have joined the program. The program also aims to help the students develop a good network of friends, diverse and mixed.

The program was inaugurated with a thought-provoking presentation by Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, titled "The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics." His session highlighted the power of mathematical concepts in explaining the world and solving complex problems, setting an inspiring tone for the rest of the program.

Initiated and organized by Agastya International Foundation and Pravaha Foundation in partnership with Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra (IIT Kanpur), the program offers a carefully curated blend of lectures by faculty members of IIT Kanpur and leading subject matter experts and supplemented with hands-on laboratory sessions, industrial visits, and multiple informal interactive sessions featuring puzzles and riddles designed to sharpen the students' observation and curiosity leading to better analytical and problem-solving abilities.

A key highlight of the program is a mentored research project, which each student will undertake under the guidance of faculty from IIT Kanpur and other subject matter experts.

The core objective of this initiative is to ignite a lifelong interest in scientific research and innovation among highly able students, many of who are from rural areas and unenviable backgrounds, paving the way for them to become future leaders in STEM.

Through lectures by faculty of renowned institutes, lab sessions, industrial visits, and collaborative research projects, this initiative aims to cultivate scientific temper, critical thinking, and research orientation in India's bright young minds.

The launch event was graced by several dignitaries, including Prof. Sandeep Sangal Materials Science & Engineering, Dr. Sudhanshu Shekhar Singh, Materials Science & Engineering IIT Kanpur, Prof. Kallol Mondal Materials Science & Engineering from IIT Kanpur, Mrs. Archana Singh, Assistant Commissioner, NVS, Shri M.G. Subramaniam, and Shri Padmanabhan Kumar from the Agastya Foundation strongly supported the program's mission and goals.
