19 March, 2025
The Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering (CESE), IIT Kanpur, hosted a talk on "Designing and Building a Net-Zero Home: A Step Towards India's Sustainability Goals" by Anil Kanchi, Co-Founder and Director of PlanetWise Pvt Ltd., Singapore, and Lokeswari Mahanthi, Founder and Director of DesignWyze, India. This brother-sister duo shared their expertise in designing modern, sustainable buildings for residential and commercial sectors, creating homes that balance aesthetics, functionality, and environmental responsibility.
In the fight against global warming and climate change, every nation, organization, and individual plays a crucial role. With India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, sustainable living became a necessity. This talk explored the design and thought process behind building a Net-Zero home from scratch, the challenges faced, and how they were overcome to create a self-sustaining, energy-efficient, water-efficient, and waste-efficient living space. By transitioning to a Net-Zero home, this initiative contributed to India’s sustainability goals and inspired others to follow suit.
