Talk titled "Women's Safety and Empowerment: Role of Judiciary" by Ms. Seema Kushwaha

The Gender Cell at IIT Kanpur on the occasion of Women's Day, hosted a talk by Ms. Seema Kushwaha, an advocate at the Supreme Court of India and Founder of Samridhi Bharat Trust. She discussed the judiciary’s crucial role in women's safety and empowerment, highlighting key legal frameworks, landmark judgments, and the ongoing challenges in achieving gender justice in India. The talk focused on cases like Nirbhaya and Shraddha Walkar, emphasizing judicial decisions that have shaped women’s safety and dignity.
Ms. Kushwaha also explored the need for greater female representation in the legal profession and the importance of breaking gender stereotypes. She stressed the role of educational institutions in promoting gender equality and legal awareness. The lecture concluded with a call to action, urging students and professionals to actively engage in initiatives that support women’s empowerment and encourage collaborative efforts between the judiciary, policymakers, and society to create a safer, more inclusive environment for women.
