Vibrant Floral Displays at Annual Flower Exhibition

Upholding its tradition, the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) organized its annual Flower Exhibition at the Institute Nursery, showcasing a diverse collection of vibrant flora. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mrs. Rachna Agrawal, wife of Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur.

The exhibition featured two categories: one for plants from residential houses of the institute and another for hostels, the Director’s residence, and the guest house.

In the first category, about 900 potted plants were displayed in various sections. The first prize was awarded to House No. 434 of Prof. Pradip Swarnakar, the second prize to House No. 625 of Prof. N. Neelakantan, and the third prize to House No. 4059 of Pragya Khandekar. In the second category, more than 1,630 potted plants were displayed across different sections. The Director's residence secured first place, Hostel No. 13 came in second, and Guest House secured third place.

The judging for the exhibition was conducted by retired professors from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur. The IIT Kanpur Nursery is home to a variety of trees, including Kalpavriksha, Camphor, Rudraksha, and Viksha, along with an herbal garden that features medicinal plants such as Sarpagandha, Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Kapoor Tulsi, and Damvel.
The flower exhibition showcased around 210 species of flowers and foliage plants, in addition to cut flowers, vegetables, and fruits. Among the prominent floral varieties on display were Pansy, Ranunculus, Dog Flower, and Primula. 

As part of the event, the Women’s Association at IIT Kanpur organized a special fair, featuring a magic show and an art competition for children.
