19 March, 2025
The Society for Civil Engineers hosted this year's Devendra Shukla Distinguished Lecture at the Department of Civil Engineering, featuring Ms. Anumita Roychowdhury, the Executive Director of the Centre for Science and Environment. She delivered an engaging and insightful talk titled "Driving Change for Clean Air and Climate: Interlinking Solutions for Scalable Transformation."
During her session, Ms. Roychowdhury highlighted air pollution as a significant public health challenge, worsened by rapid economic growth, urbanization, and increased motorization. She emphasized that achieving clean air standards in India demands a comprehensive, multifaceted approach. Ongoing scientific research is providing deeper insights into the health impacts of pollution, exposure risks, regional transport of pollutants, and the climate effects of short-lived pollutants.
The session provided valuable insights, helping participants understand the urgency of addressing air pollution and shaping policies to protect public health and the environment.
