A talk on “Myths and Facts about Cancer: What Every Person Must Know” is being organized with kind support from Health Center on 16th August, 2024 at Outreach Auditorium by Dr Harit Chaturvedi, Chairman, Max Institute of Cancer Care, Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi and Dr Aditi Chaturvedi, Senior Consultant, Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon, Max Institute of Cancer Care, Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths annually or nearly one in six deaths. Even in India, it is increasingly becoming a disease which someone or the other in every other household is grappling with. Creating awareness about symptoms, types, treatment and ways to prevent cancer is critical to tackle this disease and ensure early detection. In this session, we will talk about basic facts about cancer: simple things which every person must know to ensure that they can put their best foot forward in protecting themselves and their loved ones from this disease.

Dr Harit K Chaturvedi is the Chairperson of Max Institute of Cancer Care. He joined Max Healthcare in 2009 and has passionately built one of the largest and finest oncology programs in the country. With continuous focus on specialization, clinical quality, research and academics he has steered his team of over hundred oncologists, into the Disease Management Group (DMG) model, to help position Max Institute of Cancer Care (MICC) as one of the most respected brands in the Oncology space. His ability to nurture young talent has earned him the reputation of a leader and mentor. He has performed surgeries at live surgical workshops and has presented his work at national and international conferences. Dr Chaturvedi has served national bodies, viz. Indian Society of Oncology and Indian Association of Surgical Oncology as their President. His ability to create a grand vision and execute it was also demonstrated when he built the brand of Indian Cancer Congress, as its first Organizing Secretary.

Dr Aditi Chaturvedi is a  Senior Consultant, Breast and Oncoplastic surgeon at Max Institute of Cancer Care, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, Lajpat Nagar and Gurugram. She has done her MBBS from KEM Hospital, Mumbai and MS General Surgery from AIIMS, New Delhi where she was a Gold Medallist. Her expertise in Oncology and breast surgery was furthered while pursuing Mch Surgical Oncology from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and a Breast Oncoplasty Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York. She has been awarded the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) technical Fellowship, the Association of Breast Surgeons of India (ABSI) Young Surgeon Award among many others. Her special areas of interest and expertise are oncoplastic surgery, management of breast cancer in young women, breast health awareness, lymphedema prevention and management, cancer survivorship and quality of life issues.
