IIT Kanpur aims to steer the Future of Quantum Tech; launches Nationwide Video-Making competition

21 Apr, 2025 | IITK News

Aligning with the National Quantum Mission goals and to create a pool of talented innovators in Quantum Technology, the Mission Coordination Cell of the National Quantum Mission (NQM) at IIT Kanpur has announced a nationwide video-making competition to mark World Quantum Day. The exciting contest calls upon college students across India to creatively imagine and showcase how quantum technologies can reshape the country’s most critical sectors. The competition is themed on the “Transformative Potential of Quantum Technologies in Critical Sectors” of India such as energy, healthcare, defense, and agriculture.
Open to students aged 18 to 22 from all academic disciplines across the country, the competition aims to spark interest and awareness about the real-world impact of quantum advancements. Participants are encouraged to submit original videos, up to 90 seconds (1.5 minutes) in duration, highlighting how quantum technologies can revolutionize key sectors such as energy, healthcare, defense, and agriculture.

“This is a unique opportunity for students to express their vision of the future shaped by quantum innovation. We are looking for creativity, clarity, and a strong grasp of how quantum technologies can bring change,” said Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur.

Participants can submit videos in a variety of formats, including live-action, animation, or presentation-style storytelling, offering them the freedom to bring their ideas to life in the most engaging way possible. While English is preferred, entries in regional languages are also encouraged, provided they include English subtitles to ensure accessibility to a broader audience.

The top 10 videos will be prominently featured on official National Quantum Mission platforms, giving students a national stage for their talent and ideas. The top three entries will earn an exclusive invite to a high-profile quantum event, hosted by the Mission Coordination Cell, where they will be honored on stage by India’s leading quantum experts and awarded exciting cash prizes.

The last date for submissions is May 5, 2025. Videos can be submitted through the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1yij-33OpgGaFsicA-lndp2Nt6Tx05Xu0yadm9jiK8qo/edit. For any queries, students can write to events-nqm@iitk.ac.in

This initiative is a significant step in engaging the youth of India with the country’s quantum future by combining scientific understanding with creative storytelling to build awareness and excitement around this emerging field.
