27 Feb, 2025 | IITK News
The Computer Centre at IIT Kanpur marked Safer Internet Day 2025 with an impactful cybersecurity awareness workshop at Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Kanpur. The event, aligned with this year's global theme "Together for a Better Internet," brought together approximately 95 students and teachers for a comprehensive session on digital safety and responsible internet usage.
Dr. Debpriya Basu Roy, Assistant Professor of Computer Science Engineering at IIT Kanpur, led the interactive session attended by approximately 95 participants, including students and teachers. The workshop addressed pressing concerns in today's digital landscape, focusing on both common and sophisticated cyber threats that young internet users might encounter.
Dr. Debpriya Basu Roy Assistant Professor, Computer Science Engineering, IIT Kanpur, said, βIn our increasingly connected world, digital safety isn't just an option β it's a necessity. Today's workshop aimed to empower students with practical knowledge and tools to protect themselves in the digital space, ensuring they can harness the internet's potential while staying safe from its risks. The enthusiasm and engagement we witnessed today reinforces the importance of these educational initiatives.β
The workshop covered a comprehensive range of topics, including emerging cyber threats, essential cyber hygiene practices, analysis of recent cyber incidents, and detailed guidance on incident reporting mechanisms. Participants engaged in practical demonstrations and interactive sessions designed to reinforce their understanding of safe internet practices.
This initiative forms part of a broader nationwide campaign spearheaded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to foster safer digital habits among India's young internet users. The program reflects IIT Kanpur's commitment to social responsibility and its role in promoting digital literacy across educational institutions.
The response from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with both students and faculty members highlighting the workshop's practical value in today's technology-driven environment. The success of this event emphasises the importance of continued education and awareness in cybersecurity, particularly for young internet users who are increasingly exposed to digital risks.
The Computer Centre at IIT Kanpur plans to conduct similar workshops throughout the year, furthering its mission to create a more informed and cyber-aware student community. These initiatives align with the global objective of creating a safer, more inclusive digital world for all users.
