"It was a pleasure to chair the first Executive Council meeting of the newly established Sindhu Central University in Ladakh. The council is co-chaired by Prof Kamakoti Veezhinathan, Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. 

In its formative years, Sindhu University will be mentored by Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and IIT Madras. In the initial years, three academic programs - MTech in Energy Technology & Policy, MTech in Atmospheric & Climate Sciences, and MA in Public Policy will be launched from the academic year 2023-24. 

The university is expected to become a center of excellence in renewable energy, atmospheric sciences, and sustainable technology. It is planned to set up state-of-the-art labs in these areas. These labs will leverage some of the unique features of the region. The University campus is planned to be located in Khaltsi, Leh district." says Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT Kanpur.
