14 Jun, 2023 | IITK News
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and Military Engineer Services(MES) Jhansi have collaborated to transform five Army stations into carbon-neutral campuses.
This move is aligned with India's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and was announced on Earth Day 2023. The transformation of Army cantonments to Net Zero Carbon, Net Zero Energy, Net Zero Water, and Net Zero Waste campuses will significantly contribute to India's carbon neutrality objectives. The association aims to showcase a proof-of-concept model through coordinated initiatives and create a resource pool of Army personnel trained in sustainable practices.
The MOU was signed by Col. Akhil Singh Charak, Commander Works Engineer (CWE) & IITK alumnus; Major Sunny Attri, Garrison Engineer from MES Jhansi, and Prof. A.R. Harish, Dean of R&D, IIT Kanpur, in the presence of Prof. Ashish Garg, Prof. Rajeev Jindal, and Prof. Aakash C. Rai from the Sustainable Energy Engineering Department.
