GSMST, IIT Kanpur partners with Government of Uttar Pradesh to enhance tele-medicine using AI in the state

The Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and the Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to revolutionize healthcare delivery and advance tele-medicine facilities in the state through the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The MoU was signed by Shri Ranjan Kumar IAS, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and Professor Sandeep Verma, Professor-In-Charge, Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, IIT Kanpur, in the presence of Shri Brajesh Pathak, Deputy Chief Minister, State of Uttar Pradesh; Prof. S. Ganesh, Director, IIT Kanpur; Shri Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, Minister of State Parliamentary Affairs, Medical Education, Medical and Health, Family Welfare, Mother and Child Welfare; Shri Partha Sarthi Sensharma, Principal Secretary, Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare; Prof. Amitabha Bandyopadhyay and Prof. Nisheeth Srivastava from IIT Kanpur.
Prof. S Ganesh, Director of IIT Kanpur, stated, “The partnership between the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology of IIT Kanpur and the Uttar Pradesh Government will enhance healthcare delivery by integrating AI into telehealth and point-of-care diagnostics. We can bridge gaps and improve accessibility in healthcare by implementing AI-driven solutions. Using AI and machine learning to analyse data and predict population-based needs and outcomes will improve healthcare delivery efficiency and effectiveness. This partnership demonstrates our shared determination to drive positive change and propel Uttar Pradesh towards a healthier, more prosperous future.”
Prof. Sandeep Verma, Professor-In-Charge, Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, IIT Kanpur, said, “This transformative journey with the Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh will see IIT Kanpur leveraging its expertise in AI to innovate the delivery of healthcare and transform the landscape for the people of Uttar Pradesh. This partnership will pave the way for a future where AI-driven solutions redefine patient care and accessibility.”
The MoU outlines several key areas of collaboration, including anchoring tele-medicine hubs and enhancing the quality of tele-medicine services, implementing AI-based solutions to address population health impact, developing point-of-care diagnostics to drive program improvements, conducting competency-based capacity building for health cadres, and utilizing database predictions and analysis for informed decision-making.
This will help the Department to make optimal use of the UP Digital Health Stack (UP-DHS) and ensure that every citizen of the state, wherever they are, will be able to access healthcare when needed. In Uttar Pradesh, UP-DHS is making significant strides in implementation, with foundational NHS elements deployed across all health administrative units and the rollout of essential healthcare applications well underway.
IIT Kanpur is delighted to embark on this partnership and look forward to a fruitful collaboration that will significantly enhance healthcare delivery and positively impact the lives of citizens across Uttar Pradesh.
