Center of Mental Health and Wellbeing (CMHW) organized Y25 Winter Postgraduate Orientation Programme at IIT Kanpur to welcome new postgraduate students and support their smooth transition into campus life. Conducted over multiple days, the programme combined academic and administrative briefings, campus familiarisation, and meaningful engagement around student wellbeing.

The orientation commenced with a Welcome Address by Prof. Braj Bhushan, Deputy Director, IIT Kanpur, followed by overviews of Academic Affairs by Prof. Ashoke De, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Students’ Affairs by Prof. Pratik Sen, Dean of Students’ Affairs. Students were also introduced to IIT Kanpur’s digital ecosystem by Mr. Navpreet Singh, Chief Computer Engineer, and to academic regulations by Prof. Abheejeet Mohapatra, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

Key discussions on inclusivity, growth, and opportunity formed an important part of the programme, including sessions on Gender Sensitivity by Prof. Jishnu Bhattacharya (Gender Cell), CDAP by Prof. Anubha Goel (Coordinator, CDAP), and innovation and entrepreneurship by Prof. Deepu Philip, Professor In-charge, Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre.

Student wellbeing remained central throughout the orientation. CMHW introduced students to available support services through sessions led by Prof. Sudhanshu Shekhar Singh, Head-Admin, CMHW, and Dr. Alok Bajpai , Head-Clinical, CMHW. Interactive discussions with counsellors encouraged open conversations around mental health, confidentiality, and coping strategies, while campus walks and informal engagements fostered connection and belonging.

Organised by CMHW, the Y25 Winter PG Orientation reflects IIT Kanpur’s commitment to holistic student development-integrating academic excellence with mental health, support, and community. We warmly welcome our Y25 PG students and wish them a fulfilling and enriching journey at IIT Kanpur.
