IIT Kanpur held its first Distinguished Alumni Meet (DAM) from 30 Aug. to 01 Sept. 2024 in Goa with the objective of creating a platform to encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and support for current students, faculty, and the institute as a whole. Engaging distinguished awardees at this Meet, served several important purposes like, creating a platform that fosters a wide array of projects, research initiatives, and institutional activities, enabling individuals to take ownership and catalyze transformative change, and foster a culture of knowledge exchange by providing a forum for alumni to share their professional experiences, insights, and expertise with each other and with the current academic community.
The event witnessed the participation of 19 distinguished alumni, including Mr. Neelkanth Mishra (BT/CSE/1997), Chief Economist at Axis Bank and Head of Global Research at Axis Capital, who delivered the keynote address on "Viksit Bharat: A Product Nation," emphasizing the importance of technology and the role of educational institutions. The special guest for the event was Dr. Puneet Goel (BT/EE/1987), Chief Secretary of the Government of Goa.
Other notable alumni in attendance included Dr. Mahesh Gupta (BT/ME/1975), Dr. BVR M. Reddy (MT/ME/1974), Mr. Sunil Singhal (BT/CHE/1971), Mr. Prabhat Singh (BT/CE/1980), Prof. U.B. Desai (BT/EE/1974), Mr. Rahul Gautam (BT/CHE/1975), Dr. Ajay Kumar (BT/EE/1984), Mr. Rakesh Bhargava (BT/CHE/1973), Mr. Hemant Jalan (BT/CHE/1977), Mr. Pradeep Bhargava (BT/ME/1989), Mr. Aloke Bajpai (BT/EE/2001), Mr. Rajiv Shanti Swarup (BT/EE/1973), Mr. Deepak Garg (BT/ME/2003), Mr. Lalit Jalan (BT/EE/1979), Mr. Rakesh Sharma (MT/NET/1978), and Mr. Naveen Tewari (BT/ME/2000).
Representing IIT Kanpur were Director Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Deputy Director Prof. Braj Bhushan, Prof. Amey Karkare, Dean of Resources & Alumni Prof. Tarun Gupta, Dean of R&D Prof. Vinod K. Singh, Chair Professor Prof. Shikha Dixit, and Prof. R. Sankararamakrishnan.
Director's presentation emphasized on the importance of translational research, upgrading and building new infrastructure especially for the student community, establishing a center for teaching excellence, and the engagement of alumni with faculty and students.
