We’re proud to celebrate our Distinguished Alumnus, Prof. Rajesh K. Gupta (BT/EE/1984), on being named the Founding Dean of the School of Computing, Information and Data Sciences (SCIDS) at UC San Diego - a milestone that marks both a personal and institutional leap in the domains of AI, data, and computing.

A visionary academic and globally recognized leader, Prof. Gupta brings decades of interdisciplinary innovation, leadership, and impact - from steering the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute to shaping research ecosystems at the national and international levels.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

His appointment underscores his commitment to building inclusive, future-ready institutions that bridge research, education, and societal transformation.
